I completed both MBBS and MS General Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. What AIIMS taught me most was not facts, it was judgment. When to be aggressive, when to hold back, how to read a case that does not fit the textbook. That judgment is built through volume and complexity, and AIIMS provided both in abundance.

Surgical Oncology లో నా interest AIIMS లో formed అయింది. Cancer surgery అనేది regular surgery కంటే వేరేగా ఉంటుంది. ఒక్కో కేసు ఒక్కో puzzle. ఒక్కో రోగి ఒక్కో కుటుంబం. నేను ఈ specialty కి వస్తున్నాను ఎందుకంటే నాకు ఇది genuinely interesting అనిపించింది, ఇది నా రోగులకి అత్యంత తేడా చేయగలిగే specialty అని అర్థమైంది.

My interest in surgical oncology formed at AIIMS. Cancer surgery is different from routine surgery. Every case is a different puzzle. Every patient comes with a family behind them. I chose this specialty because it genuinely interested me, and because I understood early that it was the field where surgical decision-making had the most direct impact on a patient's life.

Osmania University, Hyderabad లో DNB Surgical Oncology చేసి తర్వాత Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh నుండి MRCS పొందాను. ఆ తర్వాత MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre, Hyderabad లో Surgical Oncology practice మొదలుపెట్టాను. అక్కడే Professor గా పని చేస్తున్నాను, తర్వాత వచ్చే తరం surgical oncologists కి training ఇస్తున్నాను.

After completing DNB Surgical Oncology from Osmania University, Hyderabad, I obtained MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. I then established my surgical oncology practice in Hyderabad, centred at MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre where I serve as Professor. Training the next generation of surgical oncologists there is something I take seriously.

That is what AIIMS taught me, and 20 years of practice has only deepened that understanding.

Completing MS General Surgery at the same AIIMS meant years of training in the most demanding surgical environment in India. It was during this training that my commitment to surgical oncology crystallised.

DNB Surgical Oncology, Osmania University, Hyderabad

Returning to Hyderabad to complete DNB Surgical Oncology at Osmania University. This is the specific qualification in surgical oncology that defines my specialist practice.

I have published research on gastric cancer, rectal cancer outcomes and Ewing sarcoma. For me, academic work is not separate from clinical practice. Behind every paper are the patient outcomes I observed, the patterns I wanted to understand and improve. Documenting what I see at MNJ through research makes my practice better and contributes to what other surgeons know. The two reinforce each other.

I want every patient to understand something when they come to me: you are not getting just a surgeon. You are getting an AIIMS-trained, 20-year experienced, MNJ Professor who has performed this specific type of surgery thousands of times. That difference matters. Not in an abstract way, in a direct, measurable way for your outcome.

I speak Telugu. Many of my patients come from outside Hyderabad. The city can be overwhelming and the reports incomprehensible. Talking to patients in their own language, explaining clearly, without hiding behind medical jargon, is as important to me as the surgery itself. Medicine delivered in a language the patient cannot follow is medicine only half given.

When asked why I chose surgical oncology, my answer is simple: in this specialty, the right decision can change a patient's life. The wrong one can too. That responsibility is what motivates me to take this work seriously. Every single day.
